If you’re hosting an event & looking at adding some exciting elements to the proceedings why not consider a Mimosa Bar. Not only are they a fun talking point, but they can also be created on a small or large budget, and can include alcohol or non-alcohol alternatives. Making these a fun option for not only engagement & bridal parties but also for baby showers too, known as a ‘Mum-osa’ or ‘Mom-osa’.
The ‘Mimosa’ drink is traditionally a combination of sparkling wine and orange juice named after the pretty yellow flowering plant, Acacia Dealbata, also known as the Mimosa.
However Mimosa Bars are no longer limited to only sparkling wine & orange juice, they now include a huge range, from champagne & non-alcoholic options to a wide selection of fruit juices and toppings!
First of all you will need a sign to explain how guests can create their mimosas. This will include steps to create their drinks, usually starting with the main part which would be champagne, sparkling wine, or a non-alcoholic sparkling wine. If you include both alcohol and non-alcohol options, make sure these are clearly indicated to guests. These drinks can be displayed in an ice buckets for an elegant display. Remember to chill for around 3 hours before popping on the tables.
Next, the guest will be asked to select a fruit juice of their choice, this can range from as little or many options as you’d like, popular choices included are usually:
- orange juice
- cranberry juice
- watermelon juice
- pineapple juice
- mixed fruit options
This is a great starting point, and you can add any additional juices that you love! I would consider having double the amount of orange juice to the other juices as this is usually the most popular.
The juices are often displayed in plastic or glass decanters & are clearly labelled.
Now for the toppings, these are added last as a decorative flavour finish to the drinks, and there is a huge range that can be included. Popular options include:
- strawberries
- raspberries
- blueberries
- orange slices
- pomegranate seeds
- fresh herbs, like rosemary sprigs
Store these in ramekins or little dishes and display with food tent labels in front.
Remember to add flutes to the table, and spoons for each of the toppings.
Then sit back and enjoy a delicious drink (or two) with your guests!
